Maine (Battleship)

USS Maine (BB/2C), an armored battle ship, was blown up in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898. A court of inquiry was unable to obtain evidence regarding the cause of the ship's destruction. In August 1910, Congress authorized the raising of the ship. The hull was refloated and towed into the Gulf of Mexico where it was sunk with honors on March 16, 1912.
